Dancing at Dawn – a Bike Ride (UPDATED)
April 24, 2019 @ 4:30 am - 9:00 am
It started with a ride past Twin Creek this past weekend, that got us to thinking: Wouldn’t it be great to bike out to a Sage Grouse Lek pre-dawn and witness one of our local annual miracles: Sage Grouse mating dances.
The Game and Fish has generously agreed to meet us out there and provide context for the centuries old display, while educating us on responsible viewing techniques (read more here: http://bit.ly/2FoeyUH). Yay Rene @ the WG&F! 🙌
DEETS: The plan for this informal ride amongst friends is this: Leave the Lander Bake Shop at 4:30 am (yes, it’s chilly–30 degrees–and dark on the way out, so ping me or one of our great local bike shops for gear recommendations, but headlights and tail lights are a must). No Rider Left Behind on this 18 mile ride to the Twin Creek Lek or back (Mile Post #63). In the interest of viewing/timing, we’ll be targeting a 15 mph avg. Bring your fave optic or camera, but we’ll bring a spotting scope/tripod and binos to share. We’ll arrive pre-dawn (6:42 am sunrise). View for 30 – 45 mins and return quiet as we came.
Upon return (~8:30 – 9:00 am): Coffee, sweets and grouse strutting imitation at the Lander Bake Shop. Hope you can join! (307-349-8211 for questions)
